A day at the beauty parlor!

4 Senior Saints Ladies spent the day getting their "hair did", nails trimmed and looking fancy-huh? Grace Kelly (8 years young crew representative for Saintly Bernards Rescue), McKenzie (7 years young foster dog for Saintly Bernards Rescue looking for her forever home), Beatrice (8 years young Saintly Saints foster dog currently overcoming several medical conditions) and Betty Boop (Senior Saint foster dog looking for her forever home) got together to for a day of pampering.

Jamie Byrnes, founder of Saintly Bernards Rescue, helps maintain socialization, respect and a life of pampering by making sure all foster dogs are taken care of to the fullest extent. All saints who become a member of the Saintly Bernards Rescue program are fully vetted (spay/neuter, vaccines, blood work, x-rays, dentals and monthly preventative medicine (flea/heartworm)), fully groomed and fully socialized with people, dogs and children. All dogs who enter the program get to recover and prosper in a home environment while learning basic obedience and preparing them for their forever home. Top quality grain free kibble is introduced into their diet, along with extra yummies and necessary supplements. Each foster dog is giving the quality of care that they have lacked in their previous life.

Senior saints and senior dogs in general tend to get overlooked in shelters and rescues. Fear of death or health bills seem to be disconcerning to potential adopters. Senior dogs are the ones who are greatful for a nice retirement home and are wise beyond their years. Some things that potential adopters should consider with senior dogs is the calmer more trusting temperments, more stable and predicatable in dispositions and have learned the meaning of "no" or "leave it". Think you can't teach an old dog new tricks? WRONG!! They are eager to please and determined to do what is right. I was able to teach McKenzie to sit and to eat on the down. McKenzie now knows the meaning of leave it and even KISSES :) . McKenzie is a 7 year old Saint Bernard who didn't know what commands were- now... she is dying to please her owner! Seniors are great quiet and reserved companions who still have LOTS of love to give.

I can go on and on. As a youngster person- I was ignorant to the value and love a senior can bring to a household. Their dispositions help the rest of the pack become more calm in general. You can have multiple seniors in a home- and it is peace and quiet. Throw one puppy in the mix- and WOW do things spark up! Don't get me wrong- I enjoy the challenge of a youngster. But, I also now see the benefit I can be as a foster mom to a DESERVING and grateful senior saint bernard.

Enjoy the pictures of our day at the salon! Must love and admiration to Jamie & Her Saintly Saints for all that they do for this wonderful breed.

"A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?"

  1. Thank you soooo much for what you do with the wonderful bread of Saint Bernards. Just think where they would be without you!! I really can't thank you enough for them!! Have a wonderful day Jamie, but I know you already do just by living and helping all the dogs that you do, I am sure it is very rewarding. :)
